Contemporary and lyrical styles of dance are becoming more and more popular as they are fun, expressive, and creative. At Precision Dance contemporary classes begin at approximately age 9, this is common as it is a more mature dance style and the students need to be more in tune with their bodies.

Contemporary is based on expression through movement of the body and there is often an element of partner work, and working together to create shapes. We use a lot of breath with movement and a strong emphasis is put on suspension and release.

The ATOD contemporary syllabus is strong and teaches a well-rounded contemporary technique. It suits most dancers in the classes and is enjoyable for the students. We offer the ATOD exams in contemporary and encourage the students to participate in these.
